A Special Opportunity for Holy Trinity: Episcopal Appalachian Ministries (EAM) will sponsor two work camps in 2008; one week is already filled, but the week of July 13 – 19 still has openings. This is a great opportunity to see another kind of life -- in small mountain towns, meeting families who are grateful for help in building/repairing homes and community buildings. Should you decide to participate, you'll be working, but you'll also be a part of God's work. You'll make new friends, but you'll also be helping people who are less fortunate than you, and you'll be growing -- and enjoying yourself. Meals are provided, and there are separate dormitories with bunks for guys and girls. Work camps are open for individuals and small groups (usually no more than 6 from any one congregation). Work campers must be at least rising tenth graders. There is no upper age limit. EAM bases its work camp experiences on the last three questions of the Baptismal Covenant: “Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?...Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons?...Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?” The work becomes second to forming relationships between the work campers and the people who welcome them into their homes. Morning and evening worship are included, as is group reflection time. Contact Chaplain John Daniels to learn how you can participate. To get an idea of the work, the experience, and the beauty of EAM, check out the YouTube video produced by a Delaware church group from summer 2007. More info is on the Episcopal Appalachian Ministries web site. |
