Ministries at Holy Trinity

Building an Open Community, Connecting People to God and Their Ministries

Holy Trinity offers a variety of multi-leveled programs and opportunities to its parishioners. All ministries seek new members and are also looking to help those in need. The explanation for each ministry below includes a contact name; contact the church office, phone (301)262-5353 or email Michelle Upton for any additional information.

The Administration, Personnel and Leadership Ministry develops and implements processes to ensure that Holy Trinity functions as a program church with collaborative leadership. The Ministry’s responsibilities include leadership training, mentoring, performance assessment, administrative/business functions, etc. The team coordinates training and mentoring to ensure that the Holy Trinity lay leaders, staff, Vestry, and Rector have the needed leadership skills to execute all Holy Trinity ministries and programs. Contact: the parish office.

The Buildings and Grounds Ministry develops and administers an annual plan that ensures Holy Trinity's buildings, grounds, parking areas and driveways are fully maintained and enhanced as resources permit. In coordination with the Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School, the team focuses on preservation and maintenance of the historic property, facilities, and cemetery with the ultimate objective of having Holy Trinity's environment reflect God's majesty. Contact: Curt Reiber.

The Communications Ministry provides structure and guidance for the communication of the ministry and mission of Holy Trinity Church and its Day School to the congregation, school, and surrounding community. Forms of communication include items such as the use of the Internet website, the monthly Trinity Tidings newsletter, email, the Sunday bulletin, Vestry reports to the congregation, supplemental publications, and signage.

The Community Service Ministry functions without prescribed leadership. This Ministry focuses on the local community and recognizes the needs and diversity of Bowie and surrounding areas. This group focuses on many activities each year including sponsoring Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, High School service hours, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Co-Dependents Anonymous groups. The Community Service Ministry also includes Hunger and Honduras Missions Committees.

The Education Ministry establishes and initiates a variety of high quality educational programs for adults and children that are offered on Sundays and Wednesdays. These programs enable the congregation to learn about what it means to be a Christian, an Episcopalian, and a church member. Educational programs include Sunday Discussion Hour, Sunday School, Bible studies, Education for Ministry (EFM), Rectory Readers, and Via Media, among others. Contact: the parish office.

The Evangelism Ministry works within the diverse Bowie community to bring God’s message to people of every background and ethnicity. The team plans and coordinates evangelism activities that include the interests of people of color, singles, senior citizens, non-traditional families, and people searching for a church home. Contact: Gerry Perez, Senior Church Warden.

The Finance and Budget Ministry develops, advises and directs the financial operations of the Church to meet the needs of the congregation and to further God’s work. The team establishes a “look ahead” financial plan that outlines the upcoming obligations and fiscal projects for the next two-three years. Each year the team publishes the budget for the year, and regularly updates the Vestry and the congregation on the financial status of budgeted programs, events, and projects.

The Parish Life Ministry functions without prescribed leadership and consists of active parish life teams that contribute to Holy Trinity’s overall nurturing environment. Teams from all parish life activities, e.g., hospitality, progressive supper, foyer groups, parish picnic, etc., work together to encourage fellowship and promote Holy Trinity’s mission, vision, and values as part of the whole body of Christ. The congregation recognizes the Parish Life Ministry as a meaningful and resourceful contributor to Holy Trinity’s ongoing growth in seeking Christ and making Him known to others. Contact: the the parish office.

The Congregational Care Ministry reaches out to members of the Holy Trinity community who are experiencing moments in their lives when they may need emotional or material support, whether in good times, such as the arrival of a baby, or in times of sadness as during an illness or death in the family. Support may include preparing meals, providing transportation, and visiting. The Ministry promotes training to develop leaders from within the group and to enhance special pastoral skills where needed. Contact: Karen Kalber.

The Stewardship Ministry provides all parishioners with information about the importance and needs of our existing and projected programs at the Church. Holy Trinity members dedicate much of their time, talent and treasure to furthering God’s work. This Ministry emphasizes to the church family, young and old, that good stewardship is a year-round effort and a way of living. Those in this Ministry area increase their knowledge of stewardship through videos, publications, and seminars. The Ministry keeps the congregation informed through mailings, bulletin and Tidings articles and Sunday Discussion sessions. Contact Thomas Lackey.
